# Podcast: £2B and What Actually Matters

**Date:** 30 Mar 2026
**Category:** Podcasts

This episode explores the UK government’s £2 billion commitment to quantum technologies, and what it signals about the next phase of the field. It examines how funding is being allocated, the role of government procurement, and how defined missions are shaping direction across computing, sensing, and networks.

The discussion also addresses common misconceptions around quantum computing, including what a quantum computer actually is, where it is likely to deliver value, and where expectations are overstated. It places the UK’s approach in a global context, comparing investment, capability, and long term strategy.

Taken together, the episode provides a grounded view of how UK quantum is moving into a more structured phase of development, from research programmes to deployment, and what that means for industry, jobs, and economic impact over time.
